TRE

I specialize in a somatic treatment modality called TRE (Tension, Stress & Trauma Release Exercise) which is a deeply helpful complement or replacement for talk therapy.

WHAT IS TRE®

TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercise) is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Created by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Often what I see is actually a lot of giggling.  What is so often intimidating about engaging with trauma histories in therapy  is the emotional disruption that can arise. TRE is such a lovely modality because it does feel like release. Some folks report weird dreams, some folks talk about feeling a little sensitive for a few days, some folks cry. It looks very different for everyone. As a TRE Provider, I will be there throughout the process to work with you.

TO FIND OUT MORE

TRE is still pretty new, and not as established as some other therapies. Please feel free to ask me any questions that come to mind or explore the TRE website to learn more.

BENEFITS IN TREATMENT

After working with youth with multi-generational trauma for many years, I realized that not everyone can access their words when they have experienced difficult things. Yet, I believe that everyone benefits from releasing trauma.  In learning about and practicing TRE, I found a truly simple and effective way for folks to engage with difficult material without relying on talk therapy. I work with clients solely using TRE or in combination with talk therapy.

INDIVIDUAL AND COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT

I am always looking for ways to bring other modalities into my work, especially with LBGTQIA folks. So many in our community have dealt with trauma, dissociation from our bodies, and internalization of oppression. What I love about TRE is that it is a practice you control, you do independently. By empowering clients to heal themselves, our community gets stronger, healthier, mobilized.
